In 2004 Langtree acquired the site from Liverpool City Council and the brief was to create a residential scheme which delivered a new waterfront park that benefitted the site and maximised its riverside location and elements including the Chinese and Japanese formal gardens.
Langtree worked within the policy principles set out by the Council in evolving the design before carrying out an extensive public consultation exercise which took some 18 months. A planning application was submitted in November 2006.
Planning approval was unanimously granted by Liverpool City Council in May 2007 but later called in by the Secretary of State. A long and lengthy public enquiry ran during December 2007 and January 2008 with consent finally granted in July 2008.
